Help Build Truly Independent Media - And Own It With Us

Building A New Way to News, Together

The Convergence Lens is a worker-member cooperative, which means that joining our team is more than a simple job commitment. By joining us, you become part-owner of an independent media publication and community platform committed to radical editorial independence, democratic governance, and the belief that the people who do the work should control all aspects of that work.

We are actively building our Worker-Member base and looking for people who are excited about both the work and this model. All positions are flexible, fully remote (with possible travel required depending on position), and designed to work around your existing commitments. We are committed to pay equity and will always share our compensation framework transparently with applicants.

We are further committed to building an inclusive team, and strongly encourage applications from BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, disabled, and otherwise marginalized workers. We will work with you to accommodate any accessibility needs, and we actually mean that unlike corporate jobs which claim to care about inclusivity but fire disabled people the moment they need accommodation. That’s not us.

What is Worker-Membership?

When you join The Convergence Lens to work in a consistent, ongoing capacity, you are invited to become a Worker-Member of the cooperative.

This involves:
• A 90-day probationary period during which you perform limited volunteer work (no more than 5 hours per week) for TCL and are evaluated by the existing Worker-Members.
• Upon admission: a capital contribution of $200, which may be paid over time through payroll deductions – we know this sounds odd, but this is your ownership stake. You will get this back upon your departure, it is essentially just a deposit to ensure you are committed to being an active member.
• One vote, equal to every other Worker-Member’s, in all governance decisions (voting rights activate at $50 contributed).
• Access to full financial records, Board minutes, and all governance documents.
• A share of any annual financial surplus the cooperative generates, distributed in proportion to labor contribution.

We do not and will not offer equity or investor stakes to corporations and billionaires. The only people who will ever own The Convergence Lens are the working people.

Worried About Qualifications?

Studies have shown that many people, particularly those raised as women in this patriarchal world, are unlikely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification.  At The Convergence Lens, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about a role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the description, we encourage you to apply anyways.  You just may be the perfect fit for our team, and we can always train you!

You may use the cover letter section within our application form to provide a URL to your portfolio, or use the CV/resume upload to provide direct samples of your work. As long as we have some samples of what you can do, we’re not worried about the format or how professional your resume looks.
