How to Join Groups

Joining groups is simple and opens up new corners of the community for you to explore.

Browsing Available Groups

Step 1: Navigate to Groups

• Click “Groups” in the member navigation menu
• You’ll see the group directory

Step 2: Explore Groups

View groups by:

• All Groups – Everything available at your membership level
• My Groups – Groups you’ve already joined

Step 3: Filter and Search

• Use search bar to find groups by keyword
• Filter by: Last Active, Newest, Alphabetical, Most Members

Joining Public Groups

Public groups allow instant joining:

1. Find a public group you’re interested in
2. Click on the group name to view details
3. Read the group description
4. Check recent activity to see if it’s a good fit
5. Click “Join Group” button
6. You’re immediately a member!

Joining Private Groups

Private groups require approval:

1. Find a private group (labeled and with lock icon 🔒)
2. Click on group name
3. Read group description and rules
4. Click “Request to Join”
5. Group admin/moderators will review your request
6. You’ll receive notification when approved (usually within 48 hours)

What Happens After Joining

Immediate Access:

• Group appears in “My Groups” list
• You can view all group content
• You can post in group forums
• You can participate in group discussions
• You receive group notifications (based on your settings)

• Find your groups: Main menu > Groups > My Groups
• Or: Profile dropdown > My Groups

Participating in Groups

Once you’re a member:

Introduce Yourself:

• Share a bit about yourself
• Mention what brought you to the group
• Keep it brief and friendly

Read Before Posting:

• Review any pinned posts or group rules
• Get a feel for the group’s tone and focus
• Understand what’s on/off topic

Engage Actively:

• Comment on existing discussions
• Start new threads when you have something to contribute
• Respond to others’ posts
• Share relevant resources or links

Group Notifications

By default, you’ll receive notifications for:

• Group updates
• Replies to your group posts
• @mentions in group

Manage Group Notifications:

• Account Settings > Notifications
• Set defaults for all group notifications

Group Membership Benefits

Enhanced Sense of Community:

• Smaller, focused discussions
• Build relationships with like-minded members
• Feel more connected to the community

Specialized Content:

• Topics and discussions specific to your interests
• Resources shared within the group
• Group-exclusive events and activities

Greater Visibility:

• Your profile shows which groups you’re in
• Groups appear on your activity feed
• Easier to find others with shared interests

Leaving a Group

Changed interests or too many groups?

To Leave a Group:

1. Go to the group page
2. Click “Leave Group” button
3. Confirm your decision
4. You’re immediately removed

What Happens:

• Group disappears from your “My Groups”
• You lose access to group content if group is private/hidden
• Your previous posts remain visible to group members
• You can rejoin anytime (will require re-approval for private/hidden groups)

Hidden/Invitation-Only Groups

Some groups aren’t visible in the directory:

• You must receive an invitation from a group member
• Invitations appear in your notifications
• Accept or decline from notification

Tips for Group Participation

Start Small:

• Join 2-3 groups initially
• See which ones resonate with you
• Add more groups over time

Be Active:

• Groups thrive on participation
• Comment, post, and engage regularly
• Inactive members miss the best parts of groups

Respect Group Culture:

• Each group has its own vibe
• Follow group-specific rules
• When in doubt, ask group moderators

Try Different Groups:

• It’s okay to join and leave
• Explore various communities
• Find where you feel at home

Troubleshooting

Can’t Join a Group?

• May be tier-restricted (check membership requirements)
• May be at member capacity (rare)
• May require invitation

Request Not Approved?

• Private groups can be selective
• Admins may want active members
• Try other groups or reach out to admin for clarification

Don’t See Any Groups?

• Make sure you’re logged in
• Check your membership tier
• Groups may be loading – refresh page
• Still having issues, send us an email
