Community Guidelines

Last Updated: November 8th, 2025

The Convergence Lens exists to bridge pop culture with political reality, creating space for analysis, activism, and conversation that honors both our passions and our principles.

As we strive to bring you articles, media, and events that spark dialogue about the state of the world and what we can do to fix it, we know that not everyone will agree with one another. That’s why we’re asking you to help keep discussions across The Convergence Lens platforms – including our website and social media accounts – respectful, honest, and grounded in good faith.

The Convergence Lens will not tolerate any personal attacks, hate speech, racism, transphobia, homophobia, zionism, or other targeting of marginalized groups or individuals in our community. We also won’t permit misinformation, spam, or bad-faith engagement.

If a user violates these guidelines, The Convergence Lens reserves the right to delete comments, restrict accounts, remove community access, and/or terminate memberships. Our moderation isn’t done with the intention to censor or tone-police anyone, but we are also not obligated to publicly preserve hostile or distracting behavior.

We’ve set these guidelines to clarify the conduct expectations we have for everyone in our shared spaces. These standards apply across all platforms and topics, and we expect our community members to adhere to them. We trust our readers, and we want to ensure you can trust and feel safe in our spaces, too.

We Welcome Disagreement, With Boundaries

Meaningful conversation requires honesty and mutual respect. We encourage debate, analysis, and advocacy. However, we also reserve the right to:

  • Hide or delete comments that derail any discussion with personal attacks on writers, subjects, or community members.
  • Remove content containing discriminatory language, hate speech, genocide denial, or deliberate misinformation.
  • Restrict or ban users who repeatedly violate community standards or engage in bad-faith participation.
  • Revoke community access for members who create unsafe environments for others.

Community Values

On Fandom Analysis & “Problematic” Content

At The Convergence Lens, we believe that loving something and thinking critically about it are not mutually exclusive – in fact, we believe this is the whole foundation of media literacy.

We will not tolerate comments that dismiss cultural analysis as “reading too much into things” or claims that entertainment exists in a political vacuum. Art has always been political. Our work examines how media reinforces or challenges power structures, and we expect our community members to engage with that analysis in good faith.

You can love something deeply and still acknowledge its flaws. You can critique something’s failures while also celebrating it’s wins. The analysis we do means holding space for nuance, and we ask our community to do the same.

On Palestine, Sudan, Congo & “Both Sides”

The Convergence Lens has an unwavering commitment to covering the genocide, apartheid, and colonial violence occurring in places such as Palestine, Sudan, and Congo. We stand firmly against Israeli apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists and civilians. We stand against the UAE and their support of the RSF, the forces responsible for the mass destruction and killing in Sudan. We stand against the Rwanda-backed M23 group that is causing catastrophic starvation in the DRC.

The Convergence Lens is further committed to the principles of “al-Thawabit,” which include “the Palestinian people’s right to resistance, the Palestinian right to self-determination, the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, and the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland from the river to the sea,” as well as the BDS movement.

There are no two sides to genocide and colonialism. We will not platform or preserve comments offering “both-sidesism,” genocide denial, anti-Palestinian racism, or Zionist talking points. This is non-negotiable.

We will amplify oppressed voices, share mutual aid resources, and document war crimes. Our community is expected to support the liberation of all oppressed peoples or remain silent. Equivocation is complicity.

On Social Justice Movements

The Convergence Lens is firmly aligned with movements for racial justice, LGBTQ+ liberation, immigrant rights, reproductive justice, disability justice, abolitionist organizing, and all other liberation-focused causes.

We will not entertain devil’s advocate arguments that question the humanity or rights of marginalized people. We will not preserve comments that perpetuate harm under the guise of “just asking questions.”

Protecting vulnerable people and movements is a form of community care. Despite encouraging discussion, we are not a debate club at the end of the day; we are a movement-aligned organization building toward collective liberation.

On Activism & Collective Action

We believe in the importance of using cultural understanding to drive intersectional change.

We encourage community members to:

  • Share resources and mutual aid opportunities.
  • Organize around causes that matter.
  • Hold each other accountable, with compassion in mind.
  • Turn analysis into action.

However, we will not tolerate non-intersectional activism, virtue signaling, or “calling out” cancel culture that prioritizes punishment over growth. We believe in accountability, not purity politics.

Convergence Community Guidelines

Access to the Convergence Community platform is a membership benefit for all subscribers, with additional forums and groups for paid members. The platform is a space designed for community building, events, and extended conversations about the topics we discuss in our work.

It is a safe space for fandom lovers, activists, and critical thinkers to connect, learn, and grow together.

Community Standards:

  1. ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY: Absolutely no racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, zionism, or bigotry of any kind toward any people. Instant ban, no warnings.
  2. RESPECT & KINDNESS: Treat everyone with respect. Personal attacks and harassment will result in immediate removal from our platform and potential membership termination.
  3. AGE REQUIREMENT: There are forums and groups within the community that are strictly 18+ for safety. We do not check IDs, as we have chosen to prioritize privacy in that regard, but if our moderators discover that people are not respecting this boundary then we will remove these spaces entirely.
  4. GOOD FAITH DISCUSSIONS: Debates are welcome and encouraged – we want people to talk things out! However, stay on topic, engage with honesty, and avoid personal insults. Attack ideas, not people.
  5. NO SPAM OR SELF-PROMOTION WITHIN FORUMS: Keep conversations relevant to the forum topic. Occasional sharing of your own work is more than fine, but please do not overdo it. You will have your profile posts and community blog for that.
  6. SUBSCRIBER VERIFICATION: The community is exclusively for subscribers to ensure safety and positive engagement. If you unsubscribe, you will lose access when the next membership cycle processes.
  7. CONTENT WARNINGS: Use CW/TW when you go into explicit detail regarding triggers such as sexual violence, violence against children, and detailed accounts of physical trauma. You don’t need to add one every time you mention things like that, but if you’re getting into specifics that may be triggering, give people a heads up.
  8. PRIVACY & CONFIDENTIALITY: What’s shared in the community stays in the community. Don’t screenshot private conversations or community posts without explicit consent from all parties involved. You may ask to share anything, we’re not banning that all together, but if anyone in the screenshot says no, respect that boundary.
  9. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: We’re all learning together. If you disagree with someone’s take, explain why with evidence and reasoning. “That’s a stupid take” is not typically helpful, but saying things like “here’s why I think this framing overlooks X” could actually change someone’s mind.
  10. TAKE SPACE, MAKE SPACE: Be mindful of how much you’re dominating conversations. Make room for quieter voices. Listen as much as you speak.

Enforcement & Accountability

Community moderators have full discretion to:

  • Issue warnings for first-time minor violations.
  • Temporarily mute users for repeated minor violations.
  • Immediately ban users for major violations (bigotry, harassment, threats).
  • Remove members who create unsafe environments for others.

We prioritize the safety of marginalized community members over the comfort of those causing harm. If you’re asked to step back or reconsider your approach, please take it as an opportunity to reflect, not an attack on your character.

Reporting Violations

The Convergence Lens platforms are monitored regularly, but we can’t catch everything. If you see content that violates these guidelines:

All reports are taken seriously and reviewed promptly. We will not share reporter identities without your explicit permission.

Building Community Together

There is no collective liberation without collective action. We encourage all Convergence Lens community members to help shape how we cover the movements you’re part of and the media you care about. We also encourage everyone to get involved in their local communities, join organizations building towards these values, and get in the fight for global freedom.

If you have questions about missing context, suggestions for additional sourcing, or ideas for topics we should cover, we welcome your input. Please contact our editorial team at:

These guidelines may be updated periodically to reflect community growth and evolving needs. Major changes will be announced across all platforms.
